Conferences Are Like Swans

Abstract

Applying the article’s title as a metaphor, the author explores their own experiences of conference administration and delivery. Drawing from experiences of working on the HERSG Action Research Conference in 2011 the piece explains why conferences, when examined, are indeed like swans.

Author Biography

Chris Corker, Sheffield Hallam University

Chris is currently a PhD student in the field of Business History at Sheffield Hallam University. His experience of learning and teaching began while working with two CETL initiatives at his home institution and since their closure in 2010 has been involved in various learning and teaching developments. He is currently a committee member of the Higher Education Research and Scholarship Group at Sheffield Hallam University, and a committee member of the national Student Learning and Teaching Network.
